Additive manufacturing and process optimization

Prof. Shengmin Guo

Department of Mechanical & Industrial EngineeringLouisiana State UniversityUSA

The objective of this course is to present a comprehensive training on additive manufacturing (AM), spanning from fundamentals to applications and technology trends, and with strong focus on laser based AM and process optimization. Participants will learn the fundamentals of AM processes, will understand basic AM process optimization strategies, and will receive trainings on the safe operation of metal 3D printers.

Process optimizations will be discussed via detailed examples and case studies. Particular emphasis will be placed on design principlesthe simulation methodology, and advanced material characterizations to achieve high-performance metallic parts. Discussions will be given on state-of-the-art metal 3D printers and software packages.  A discussion of how metal 3D printing and advanced material characterization would influence existing engineering design and manufacturing will also be included.
