Abstract:

Multiferroic material is a class of materials containing more than one ferroic order. Ferroelectric magnetic multiferroic materials contain simultaneous polarization and magnetization. The separated ferroic orders and the coupling between them make the multiferroic material the great potential for application in memory devices and sensors. BiFeO3, as a multiferroic material with simultaneous ferroelectricity and magnetism above room, has attractedgreat attention in the past years. I will talk about our work on BiFeO3thin film and its potential application as memory device in a junction structure and our recently observed bias exchange in multiferroicheterostructures.

A brief CV of Prof. Cheng

Prof. Z.X. Cheng got B.S. on Physics from Physics Department of Shangdong University in 1995, M.S. on condensed matter physics in 1998 and Ph.D on materials science in 2001 from the Institute of Crystal Materials (the state key lab. of crystal materials) at Shandong University. Then he worked as a research fellow at the Institute of Superconducting and Electronic Materials, Univesity of Wollongong, a research fellow of Japanese Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS fellow) in the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS). In 2006 he worked a research fellow at the Insitute for Superconducting and Electronics Materials, University of Wollongong. In 2009 he was awarded the prestigious Future Fellowship of Australia Research Council, and promoted a senior lecture in 2010 he was promoted an associate Professor.

His current research interestincludes, ferroic materials and Physics, and the interaction between spin and polarization. He focuses on the exploration of the new materials and new physics with large coupling effect through materials designation according to the first principle calculation result and solid state chemistry. The relaxation process in dielectric materials and magnetic materials is also his focus.

He has been given more than 15 invited talks. He has published more than 120 papers on refereed journals. He is a regular referee for Journals like APL(IF:3.554). PRB(IF:3.475), Advanced materials(IF:8.379), JAP and JPD.
