院庆30周年系列学术报告通知——Research and Development of Novel Biodegradable Magnesium Alloys for Medical Applications Guangyin Yuan, Ph.D, Professor National Engineering Research Center of Light Alloy Net Forming, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai 200240, China Tel: 86-21-34203051, Fax: 86-21-34202794, E-mail: gyyuan@sjtu.edu.cn 报告时间:2014年9月25日周四上午10:00 报告地点:九龙湖校区材料楼B楼432会议室 Being biocompatible and biodegradable, magnesium alloys are considered as the promising biomedical degradable implant materials, such as for cardiovascular stents, bone fixtures, plates and screws, which would avoid secondary surgeries to remove after the tissue healed. The challenges for the current commercial Mg alloys as biomaterials are the serious localized corrosion behavior, poor bio-safety and low mechanical properties. Requirements for biodegradable implants are good biocompatibility, controlled biodegradability and sustainable mechanical properties. To solve these issues, scientific composition design and microstructure regulation as well as fabrication process with high purity should be systematically considered and adopted. Aided with the first principle calculation and molecular dynamic (MD) simulation, novel biodegradable Mg alloys JDBM series have been designed and developed in recent years. The patented JDBM series alloys exhibit the favorable uniform corrosion degradation behavior and degradation controllability, i.e., JDBM-1 exhibits high strength and medium ductility which will be used as Bone implants, and JDBM-2 exhibits high ductility and medium strength which will be used as cardiovascular stents. In this talk, the alloy design strategy, microstructure, mechanical properties and degradation behavior will be introduced. The in vitro and in vivo experimental results of JDBM series alloys as bone implants and cardiovascular stents will be evaluated, respectively. The primary results show that the JDBM series alloys have a promising clinical application prospect.
