Metallic Material Department

Our department is committed to training excellent personnel engaged in the design, preparation, characterization and application of advanced metallic materials. Over the past 30 years, elite talents such as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, specially appointed professors of Yangtze River scholars and chief scientists of Baosteel have emerged among the graduates. A large number of graduates have grown into principal technical personnel in the fields of metallic materials and other fields.

There are 7 professors, 6 associate professors and 2 lecturers in the department, including 2 outstanding young teachers of the provincial Qinglan Project in Jiangsu Province, and many of them hold the main positions of the provincial-level and above associations. The main research fields are advanced steel materials, light metals, metallic functional materials and ceramics, microstructure control and performance optimization, material surface micro-nanotechnology and computational materials, etc.

In recent years, relying on Advanced Metallic Materials and High Technology Key Laboratory in Jiangsu Province, the Department has undertaken more than 40 national projects including 973 and 863 projects, key and general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, national defense high-tech projects and provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects. Moreover, the department has successively won the second prize for national technological invention and the first and second prizes for scientific and technological progress in Jiangsu Province, among which ultra-light metals It has been applied in Shenzhou series spacecraft and national defense engineering in China. It has established long-term cooperation mechanism with many leading metallic materials enterprises in Jiangsu Province, undertook over 30 special funds projects for major scientific and technological achievements specialization in Jiangsu Province and enterprises production, teaching and research cooperation projects, which has made important contributions to solving common scientific and technological problems in the field of metal materials engineering and promoting the development of new material industry.

The Department has established good academic exchanges and cooperation with Japan Institute of Industrial Technology, Rostock University in Germany, Birmingham University in the United Kingdom and the University of Pennsylvania in the United States.
