The process internship field on the Southeast University campus was built during the period of Nanjing Higher Normal School in 1918. Being earliest process internship field in modern Chinese history and the earliest engineering practice education base in China, it includes the forging shop, the carpenter shop, the metalworking shop and the foundry shop. Yang Xingfo, a famous educator, was the director of the internship field. In the past century, the process internship field has been retained despite many changes. From 2000 to 2006, it was the seat of the Office of Materials Science and Engineering Department of Southeast University. The left is the original appearance and the right is the present.

As early as 1928, the National Central University had enrolled undergraduate students in engineering materials, reinforced concrete, founding and forging materials.

International students were first enrolled in 1958. This is a group photo of Shu Guangji (first from left) and Vietnamese overseas students in front of the auditorium.

On the centennial anniversary of the university in 2002, the leaders and guests of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering took a group photo in front of the office building. From left to right: Miao Changwen (the founder of Miao Changwen Scholarship), Sun Wei, Zhao Jiaxiang (part-time professor), Yan Minggao (alumni, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences), Shu Guangji, Yan Zhilong (the founder of Jinding Scholarship), Chen Yannian (the founders of Chen Yannian, Wang Jinsong Scholarship), Wu Shenqing (the current secretary of department), Jiang Jianqing (the current secretary of department), Wang Jinsong.
